I don't know if I've linked to this subject before, but there are some cool High Dynamic Range (HDR) pictures of Manhattan over at FlickR. Hat Tip: Digg.

Basically the idea is you take several pictures of the same scene, using different exposure levels on your camera. Then you combine those images with Photoshop.

CreationRobot, with HDR Photography HowTo and Link Roundup gives some guidance for how to do this yourself. Wikipedia's HDR article didn't seem too helpful to me on this. Ping Mag has a few HDR examples of Tokyo.

On the same topic of photoshop & image effects, PingMag has 10 Tiny Tokyo Photos. Basically, these aerial photos are photoshopped to make real city scenes look like a tiny model. Receding Hairline has a tutorial over at Fake Model Photography.
